The Support Centre, at 130 Queen Street, Ayr is the epicentre for the BCA’s wide range of community support services.
Seanne O'Shea is the first contact for clients seeking assistance. Seanne’s role is to assess their respective needs and arrange a referral to the appropriate BCA service or outside agency.
Services to which Seanne provides support and referrals:
- Burdekin Combined Emergency Assistance
The BCA provides premises and logistical support for a local partnership comprising the BCA and St. Vincent de Paul Society - to provide food vouchers and food parcels to needy clients, and support information and referrals to other services as required.
- Legal Aid
This service links clients directly with a qualified Legal Aid advisor relevant to the issue at hand – by phone, e-mail, fax or internet service. Seanne’s support and direct referral is particularly valuable for those intimidated by the legal process, who have language or literacy difficulties, or who are traumatised by the issue at hand.
- Domestic Violence Support
The BCA links clients to a local domestic violence counsellor available on call, to provide one-on-one assistance with court order applications and personal advice on issues of custody and child safety, family law, plaintiff’s rights, shelter accommodation, etc.
- Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Services and Gambling Help
When a person becomes addicted to illicit substances or gambling, their family members and friends struggle to understand the nature of the addiction – let alone deal with the financial, social, emotional physical and mental health issues that arise from the problem. The BCA provides the direct link to the local ATODS counsellor. |
