Homelessness Support Program:

The Homelessness Support Program is funded by the Department of Communities through the Supported Accomodation Assistance Program or SAAP.

The aim of the program is to provide short term supported accomodation for families experiencing a crisis and need to leave their homes, or are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

The accomodation is for a minimum term of 3 months and during this time a worker provides support and assistance to the family. This support includes help to find long term stable accomodation.

Since this is a crisis service there is no requirement for families to provide bond monies, and rent is calculated at the same rate as that paid by tenants of Queensland Housing.

The needs of each family or individual are assessed carefully and tenants are encouraged to take responsibility for their lives and their decisions are respected.

The support provided for tenant families is varied and may include emotional support, basic budgeting, food vouchers, information about long term housing options, assistance to access other services & referrals, specific information, transport to appointments if required, and advocacy.
