Our Services
The BCA Seniors’ Support Service is aimed at addressing issues such as loneliness, social and physical isolation, fear of crime, risk of elder abuse and providing access to information and technology. This is done through the Burdekin Older People’s Action Program (BOPAP), Round-a-Bout Magazine and Broadband for Seniors Kiosk initiatives.
Round-a-Bout Magazine
The Round-a-Bout is a monthly publication which is funded by the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services; the Burdekin Shire Council; Ayr Rotary Club; and advertising from local business houses, donations and subscriptions. Every edition is circulated free of charge and is available through local business such as newsagencies, pharmacies, Lower Burdekin Home for the Aged (Ayr and Home Hill), accountants, doctors surgeries and both Ayr and Home Hill libraries for distribution and also to our advertisers. We also have a growing list of regular subscribers on our mailing list.
Broadband for Seniors Kiosk
The kiosk offers basic computer and internet training to the Burdekin community members over 50’s. Training is done in groups of one or two and conducted over a period of time to suits the participant.
