Housing and Community Support Service

Our Services

The BCA Housing and Community Support Service offers assistance to individual/s and families within the community who may be experiencing hardship or crisis through a mix of support, case management, advocacy, advice and provision of information and referrals; within a confidential, non-judgemental, inclusive and culturally appropriate environment.

Below are the different support options available to eligible clients through our service.  Our team looks forwarded to providing the necessary support to you or a family member.  If you have any questions, please contact our office on 4783 3744.

Specialist Homelessness Service

The Homelessness Program is aimed at both reducing the number of homeless people and the number of people of becoming homeless in the Burdekin district by providing assistance to people to obtain housing; maintain their housing; and maximise their capacity to be independent, self-reliant and connected to appropriate social and community supports.

Community Support Service Program

Is to assist those in the Burdekin community who may be experiencing hardship and crisis and to help them improve and sustain their quality of life.  Hardship and crisis may include financial difficulties, emotional and mental stress, family issues, limited community interactions and limited interaction skills. This is achieved through providing advice; advocacy and referral; community living support and development activities; collaboration and coordination with other service providers who can assist you all in a non-judgemental and inclusive environment.

Flexible Financial Hardship Fund

The Burdekin Community Association Inc. (BCA) has been contracted by the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services to deliver a Flexible Financial Hardship Fund to residents in drought declared areas of the Burdekin Shire.

Funding of up to $1500 is available to assist with household and property costs to ease the burden on drought affected residents. We recognise that the amount available to households is relatively small; however, we hope the contribution is of some support in easing the financial hardship to families and businesses as a result of the drought.

Applications will be considered from drought affected residents to assist with freight costs for reducing/restocking of stock numbers and fodder for stock, utilities (power, phone, fuel, etc), school fees, rates and other costs.

Crisis Accommodation Program

The Crisis Accommodation Program (CAP) provides help to eligible people (those who are homeless, in crisis, at risk of homelessness, or in need of support to transition to independent living) find accommodation, sustain their tenancy and move them towards living independently.

Information, advice and advocacy on behalf of clients in regards to housing matters are available.  We can also liaise with government and non-government agencies on a client’s behalf in regards to housing matters.

State Emergency Relief Program

Emergency Relief helps people deal with their immediate financial crisis situation in a way that maintains the dignity of the individual and encourages self-reliance.

Emergency Relief activities are also an important gateway to other support services that can help people deal with more complex issues, including issues that have contributed to, or are a consequence of, financial stress. For example, Emergency Relief organisations can also refer people to services such as financial counselling; drug and alcohol support; crisis accommodation; mental health services; and family support services.

Domestic and Family Violence Support

Regardless of whether you choose to remain in your home or relocate, we can provide assistance with completing domestic and family violence information, advice and referrals to help access support.
