Our Services

The BCA Burdekin Centre for Rural Health offers assistance to local residents to develop or maintain a health lifestyle by reducing the risk of death, injury or illness through providing improved access to health services for individuals who need treatment, care and support.

The Burdekin Centre for Rural Health team offer a range of activities to members of the Burdekin community.  Below are the different support activities offered through our service.  Our team looks forward to providing the necessary support to you or a family member.  If you have any questions, please contact our Centre on 4783 2711.

Suicide Prevention Program

Our Services

The Suicide Prevention Program provides a vast range of information to both the community and partner organisations. We also provide education, support and advocacy.

The primary role of the Suicide Prevention Program is about raising community awareness, education and information; and ensuring that local people who need mental health support , can find the best and easiest path to getting the help they need.

There is a range of Clinical and therapeutic services which are already in place across the public and private health sectors of our community.

Education

Education is centered on Suicide prevention, mental health support and mental health wellbeing awareness.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses

Evidence based MHFA courses teach Mental Health First Aid strategies to members of the public.

MHFA is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, or in a mental health related crises, until the appropriate professional treatment is received or the crisis resolves. For courses provided within the Burdekin region, please contact the Centre for information.

Support

It is the intention of this program to bring together the widest possible cross section of local health providers, mental health clients, families and community bodies. This cross section of local groups and individuals provides the framework for providing the necessary support to those who need it.

Advocacy

Our aim is to advocate on a local, state and federal platform to ensure that the issues and causes of mental health issues are addressed and that ongoing education and support is provided for in our community.

Psychological Therapies

Is a confidential counselling and support service delivered by a psychologist for all rural industry families and individuals living in the Burdekin district.

Lifeskills are abilities which help us to deal in a positive way with the demands and challenges of everyday life.  They help us to cope a with a challenging and rapidly changing society.

Fitness for Whole of Life

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist and Certificate IV Fitness Instructor provide exercise based health monitored programs that will improve individual wellbeing chronic health issues such as cardiovascular, diabetes, arthritis and obesity.  The program also delivers a preventative approach such as falls prevention, maintaining mobility and general physical and social wellness.  Programs offered include exercise sessions, Gentle Exercise and Tai Chi classes.

Burdekin Community Rehabilitation Centre

Is a service for clients who have been identified by their doctor as having significant health risk factors or chronic conditions.

Health Promotion

Is about working with rural communities to improve community awareness of new and existing health promotion and injury prevention strategies by offering health education and information; farm safety education including itinerant worker information; and child injury prevention.

 

Visiting Health and Wellbeing Services

We have a range of visiting services who operate out of our centre and include hearing services; sleep aponea clinic; podiatry; counselling services and much more. Please contact our office for other visiting health and wellbeing services and for appointment information.

How much does it cost?

The Rehabilitation Centre charges a $35.00 initial assessment fee, then $120 for 2 months unlimited access which includes healthy lifestyle education, post assessment, fitness training, monitoring of your heart rate and blood pressure.

Visiting health and wellbeing service providers charge a fee which is set by individual providers.

A small fee is charged for other services please check with the centre for details.
